Two outstanding individuals have been announced as the inaugural 2020 Bob Hawke and Tim Fischer John Monash Scholars, at a special celebration event held at Parliament House Canberra on 3 December 2019.
20 outstanding Australians who will help shape our future have been awarded John Monash Scholarships. This diverse group represent all States and Territories and have degrees from 14 different Australian Universities.
On Monday 9th September, Prime Minister Scott Morrison paid tribute in Parliament to the Honourable Tim Fischer AC, the former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, and has committed to honouring his memory and remarkable legacy by funding a perpetual scholarship in his name.
From the most remote and rural communities to our largest cities, Australians from all political persuasions, ethnic backgrounds and religious beliefs united in sadness at the passing of the Honourable Tim Fischer, MP, National Party leader, deputy Prime Minister and former Ambassador to the Holy See on the 22nd August. A man who carried many titles but whom we all comfortably call Tim.
On July 10, UK-based John Monash Scholars Ahmad Shah Idil, Dr Sam Wills and Catherine Richards, attended the relaunch of Advance UK at the invitation of the Hon Jeannie Lopes, Advance UK Ambassador.
On Parliament’s first sitting day, Wednesday 3 July, Scott Morrison paid tribute to the late, legendary Labor Prime Minister Bob Hawke and announced the government will provide $5M to the General Sir John Monash Foundation to fund a perpetual scholarship in honour of this much-loved leader.
Amongst all the state of the art multi-media displays at the new Sir John Monash Centre at Villers-Bretonneux, visitors will notice on a pedestal a bronze bust of the great General. The sculpture of Sir John Monash was created by Melbourne-based artist Julie Edgar as a commissioned work for Mr Andrew Cannon AM, Honorary Consul to Monaco. Mr Cannon has donated the bust to the Centre to honour his grandfather Robert Henry Cannon, who served in France during the First World War.
On 14th March, Annemarie and Bianca made a visit to Graduate House, located in the heart of Melbourne University’s graduate precinct in Parkville. They were warmly welcomed by CEO/Head of College Dr Kerry Bennett, and led on a tour of the residential college.
The General Sir John Monash Foundation's Chairman Ms Jillian Segal AO was awarded the Officer of the Order of Australia on 26th January 2019. This Honour was a recognition of Jillian's achievements and hard work in shaping many industries.
