The John Monash Scholarship is a prestigious Australian postgraduate award that allows recipients to study in any field, at any international university, anywhere in the world. Inspired by General Sir John Monash, we award between 14-20 scholarships annually, empowering recipients to gain world-class expertise from their chosen institutions and then deliver positive impact for Australia.
No matter the passion — science, technology, the arts, or social impact — this scholarship is open to Australians of all ages and study areas and supports master’s or PhD studies overseas for those who demonstrate excellence in their field, leadership aptitude and are motivated to contribute to a better future for Australia.

Why apply for a John Monash Scholarship
- Get $100,000 AUD for each year of study, up to a maximum of $300,000 AUD over three years, for tuition, living expenses and related costs, plus travel support.
- No age, study area, or university restrictions — choose the best overseas university for your goals.

Where a John Monash Scholarship can take you
With freedom to study any field, at any world-class university, anywhere in the world, 282 John Monash Scholars have pursued postgraduate degrees at prestigious universities outside of Australia.
Additional fee waivers or bursaries are also available if you complete your studies with one of our partner universities:
- Kings College London, England — an additional £5,000 bursary
- Cranfield University, England — a full fee waiver for Masters programs at all schools (except the MBA)
- IE University Madrid, Spain — an additional 30% fee waiver
- University of Groningen, Netherlands — a full fee waiver for PhD programs

As a John Monash Scholar, you’ll join an active, lifelong network of world-class leaders driven by innovation. From urban renewal through to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge systems, this talent bank is already creating impact in critical areas that will define Australia’s prosperity.
