Tim Fairfax AC was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Queensland last month for his outstanding contribution to philanthropy. Tim is a highly respected grazier, community leader and philanthropist who has given generously to the arts, education and rural communities.
Tim is a long-standing supporter of the Foundation, including as patron of the Dame Quentin Bryce Scholarship.
“Tim Fairfax translates the finest values and principles of service to our community and our country into practice – philanthropy, inclusiveness, wisdom," says the Honourable Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO, former Governor-General of Australia and a community and human rights advocate.
Speaking to graduates at the conferral of his award, Tim reflected on the value and impact of philanthropy. “I sometimes think that individuals think philanthropy is solely about giving money. It’s not. It’s about generosity in all forms, defined as giving gifts of time, talent and treasure to help make life better for others.”
