General Sir John Monash Foundation announces three new scholarships funded by philanthropist Judith Neilson

The scholarships will focus on supporting sustainable futures, social innovation and cohesion, and cross sectoral collaborations

The General Sir John Monash Foundation will offer three new scholarships in 2021 as part of its prestigious annual awards program made possible through funding from philanthropist Judith Neilson. The scholarships will focus on supporting the important areas of sustainable futures, social innovation and cohesion, and cross-sectoral collaborations. 

Annemarie Rolls, CEO of the General Sir John Monash Foundation says the foundation was thrilled to have secured the generous support and commitment from the Judith Neilson Foundation on the important areas of scholarship focus.

“We’ve chosen these specific categories for the scholarships following consultation with the Judith Neilson Foundation. These are areas of great relevance and with the intent to address some of the difficult problems facing our world and are of particular interest to Judith Neilson. We look forward to seeing the great contributions our future scholars will make to these important fields,” said Ms Rolls. 

The John Monash Scholarships are among the most important postgraduate scholarships currently available in Australia and are awarded each year to 15-20 outstanding Australians who demonstrate remarkable qualities of leadership.

This is the first time the Judith Neilson Foundation has provided grants for the program, providing valuable support to ensure a strong cohort of Australian graduates applying in 2021 will be awarded scholarships. The three new scholarships will have a focus on:

1. ‘Sustainable Futures’ 

Considering challenges and opportunities for the future in key areas of social concern such as but not limited to food security, alternative energy and built environments.

2. ‘Social Innovation and Cohesion’ 

To encourage a focus on areas of community need requiring innovation and technology such as mental health initiatives, smarter more liveable cities and health initiatives driven by Artificial Intelligence.

3. ‘Cross Sectoral’

To support research and cross sectoral collaborations to move forward social, energy, civic and scientific innovations.

Applications for 2021 scholarships are currently open with a closing deadline of 14th of July 2020.
