2024 Scholars visit Australian War Memorial as part of Canberra Leadership Induction
12 March 2024
The 2024 John Monash Scholars have visited the Australian War Memorial in Canberra today as part of their three-day Scholarship induction program. The group was greeted by Australian War Memorial Director Matt Anderson PSM who spoke with Scholars, reflecting on the significance of General Sir John Monash as an Australian military leader. Monash was one of the principal organisers of ANZAC Day and an advocate for Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance.
“Going to the War Memorial in Canberra was a profound experience,” says Dr Dinesh Palipana, 2024 Susan and Isaac Wakil John Monash Scholar.
“As a General Sir John Monash Scholar, I have reflected on his career as a military commander and deeply value the empathy he demonstrated for others. At a time when thousands of lives were thrust into the front of war towards certain death, General Sir John Monash's approach would have preserved the lives of thousands.”
The group will continue to complete their induction over the next couple of days, meeting supporters and friends from government and business, and, of course, be presented to the Governor-General as part of the official Presentation Ceremony at Government House Canberra.
