Congratulations Dr Bridget Vincent
2006 John Monash Scholar Dr Bridget Vincent has just been appointed to the position of Lecturer in English at the Australian National University. This role will see her first complete a research fellowship at the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies in Denmark, with a project entitled The Architecture of Warning: Urban Ruins and the Ecological Imagination. Her first book, Moral Authority in Seamus Heaney and Geoffrey Hill, will be published by Oxford University Press later this year.
Dr Rebecca Nelson is a 2009 John Monash Scholar and Associate Professor in Law at The University of Melbourne. She has co-authored an article for The Conversation about the need for legal reform in Queensland, to safeguard crucial habitats and ecosystems. Australia has the world's largest network of privately owned conservation areas that protect a range of wildlife, and these lands cover more area in Queensland than in any other state.
Claire Daniel, 2015 Commonwealth Bank John Monash Scholar has self-published a series of resources on LinkedIn for urban planners. Her work aims to help connect planners to new technologies, by providing coding tutorials and tech terminology guides. Claire holds a Bachelor of Regional and Town Planning with 1st Class Honours and the University Medal, from the University of Queensland. Through her Scholarship, she obtained a Master’s in Science – Smart Cities and Urban Analytics from University College London. She is now completing her PhD in Urban Analytics through the University of New South Wales.
Campaign to boost GP workforce
The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has launched a new Become A GP Campaign, to address the concerning shortfall of full-time GP’s. Dr Isabel Hanson, 2022 BHP John Monash Scholar is also the 2021 RACGP NSW&ACT GP in Training of the Year, and she has lent her voice to this cause. In a recent interview, she explained that her ability to work in partnership to help people improve their health and wellbeing was a key part of what attracted her towards a career in general practice.
UWA Grand Challenges Summit
The University of Western Australia is holding an in-person event on Wednesday 23 February: UWA Grand Challenges Summit – Tomorrow’s World, Better Together. At this event, Zoe Bush 2019 Zelman Cowen John Monash Scholar, will be speaking about The Role of Law in addressing the Climate Crisis. In her keynote, she will discuss Australia's unique legal and political landscape in relation to Climate Crisis. For more information and to register for the event visit the UWA website.

Last week the Foundation was delighted to receive this happy picture from some of the 2021 John Monash Scholars studying across England, who had found the time to catch up with each other. The Scholars included (from left to right):
