2015 Australian Cultural John Monash Scholar Alies Sluiter wins Australian Directors' Guild Award for Best Direction of a Student Film
The Foundation is proud to congratulate Alies Sluiter for her award for Best Direction of a Student Film. Her winning film Ayaan was completed as the thesis film for her Master of Fine Arts in Screenwriting and Directing at Columbia University, which was supported by her John Monash Scholarship. The short film follows an escaped asylum seeker with her baby and the Aboriginal man she encounters on her journey.

A new treatment originally introduced one year ago in Cairns has found success not only in results but in helping with stigmas related to mental health disorders. Scholar and Psychiatrist at The Cairns Clinic Dr Alice Chang has explained how Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has helped provide treatment to patients with minimal side effects.
