2015 Australian Cultural John Monash Scholar Alies Sluiter's film Ayaan nominated for Best Direction in a Student Film
Since debuting her film Ayaan at the Sydney Film Festival and St Kilda Film Festival, Alies has continued to receive critical acclaim and has now been nominated for Best Direction in a Student Film by the Australian Directors Guild. The short film follows an escaped asylum seeker with her baby and the Aboriginal man she encounters on her way to safety. Alies created Ayaan as her thesis film for her Master of Fine Arts in Screenwriting and Directing at Columbia University, which was supported by her John Monash Scholarship.
