2015 Origin Foundation John Monash Scholar Jack Muir awarded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship
2015 Scholar Jack Muir was recently awarded the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship for his proposal to complete postdoctoral research at Oxford. The focus of Jack’s research is the use of very recently developed machine-learning techniques to drastically accelerate computer calculations of seismic wave propagation, which will for the first time allow wave propagation effects to be properly integrated into seismic hazard calculations. This will both greatly improve the accuracy of existing models for well-studied areas such as Southern California and New Zealand, as well as cut overall computational costs for other high-risk areas - especially those in the developing world where supercomputer resources are less available.
