Dr Kate Smith works as a Senior Consultant and Project Manager in sustainability and climate change at Aurecon, specialising in climate mitigation and climate change risk and resilience in the water sector. She graduated with a Masters and PhD in Environmental Engineering from Tsinghua University, China, as the second international student in Tsinghua’s history to be awarded the university’s top research award for her research on energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in the water sector. Kate is fluent in Mandarin, French and Spanish and has considerable knowledge of China mainland, having spent 7.5 years living through enormous technological, environmental, social and political change in Beijing and Nanning. At a time when climate change is a crucial topic on the world stage and China is a major player in this arena, she brings a unique perspective, having pursued her PhD in a climate-focused topic at China’s top-ranked university.
