David Smerdon is a researcher with a passion for applied economics, behavioural science, and policy solutions. His work spans academic disciplines and often focuses on 'wicked' problems, such as cheating and dishonesty, gender inequality, and policy challenges in developing countries such as female genital cutting and refugee integration. David is skilled in multiple analytic tools including lab and field experiments, big data analysis, applied econometrics, and machine-learning. His broad research portfolio has built experience in working in developing countries and collaborating with governments, industry and NGOs across a range of topics. Outside of his work, David is a chess Grandmaster and is Australia's highest ranked player in rapid chess.
