Fernando do Campo (b. Mar del Plata, 1987) is an Argentinian and Australian artist, writer and curator currently based in Sydney. He launched the HSSH (House Sparrow Society for Humans) in December 2015. Fernando has received awards from the Regional Arts Fund, Arts Tasmania, the Ian Potter Cultural Trust and the Australia Council for the Arts as well as undertaking residencies at the Chelsea Westminster Hospital, London; Cite International des Arts, Paris and BMUKK, Austrian Ministry of Culture, Vienna. He is the 2014 Australian Cultural John Monash Scholar, an award which saw him complete an MFA (Fine Arts) at Parsons School of Design, The New School in 2016. Recent solo exhibitions include: Localized Contagion, Praxis International Art, New York (2015); Figure behind a lake, Australian Consulate, New York City (2015); Come away closer, Northern Centre for Contemporary Art, Darwin (2014); and Two clouds passing behind stars, Mclemoi Gallery, Sydney (2013). Recent group exhibitions and projects include: Atavast, curated by Jess English, Standard Practice (2016), I can because you do, curated by Alhena Katsof, Participant Inc. New York (2016); When Contradictions Collide, curated by Alasdair Doyle, NextWave Festival, Melbourne (2016) and Why Listen to Animals? curated by Danni Zuvela and Joel Stern from Liquid Architecture, Westspace, Melbourne (2016).
Fernando was the artistic director of Sawtooth ARI from 2009-2013. He has curated freelance exhibitions and projects for Ten Days on the Island, Junction Arts Festival, Devonport Regional Gallery, Contemporary Arts Tasmania (CAT), Schloss Laudon (Vienna), Carnegie Gallery (Hobart), The Paper Mill (Sydney) and 25 East Gallery, New York. He was the curatorial assistant for The New School Art Collection from 2014-2016 as well as a member of the CDRL (Curatorial Design Research Lab). His writing has appeared in Art Monthly Australia Magazine, Art Almanac and numerous artists' publications internationally.
In 2017 he will be presenting I always hear you before I see you a solo exhibition of new paintings at Praxis Gallery, New York as well as HSSH (House Sparrow Society for Humans) projects at Ararat Regional Gallery (VIC) and Green-wood Cemetery (Brooklyn).
