William Leben is a Melbourne-based analyst and writer. William has broad professional and academic research interests, including in future war, climate change, energy and geopolitics, and political violence. He has previously written on the future of the Australia-NATO relationship after Afghanistan, Australia’s colonial history in Papua and New Guinea, and the future of the ADF. William was previously an Australian Army officer. He served in several armoured corps regimental appointments and deployed to Iraq. He has also worked as an analyst at the ANU's National Security College and in ASPI's Climate and Security Policy Centre. He was a 2019 General Sir John Monash Foundation Scholar, completing an MPhil in Development Studies at Oxford, and holds a BA (First Class Honours) from UNSW.
