Brendan graduated from the University of Melbourne as Valedictorian of the MBBS/BMedSc Class of 2010. He trained in Paediatric Surgery through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons prior to undertaking Doctoral studies in gastrointestinal organ engineering and developmental biology at the Zayed Centre for Research into Rare Disease in Children, London. His research utilised three dimensional gastrointestinal ‘organoids’ derived from tissue-specific stem cells to study normal development of the GI tract, age-related response to gastrointestinal SARS-CoV-2 infection, and the engineering of multi-regional mini-stomachs in vitro. After completing this work, Brendan has joined the Cell Therapy unit at Novo Nordisk in Copenhagen, Denmark, combining his clinical and stem cell research experience with the aim of taking new therapies to clinical trial.
