The John and Anna Belfer Trust John Monash Scholar
Master of Public Health
Johns Hopkins University
After moving from Fiji in 2001, Praneel completed a medical degree at Griffith University, graduating with the University Medal. He is now completing his specialist training as an obstetrician. A defining professional experience occurred in 2022 when he delivered a stillborn baby from an unwell Indigenous mother from rural NSW. He is troubled by the statistic that a woman dies every two minutes due to largely preventable pregnancy complications worldwide. Praneel has undertaken numerous placements focusing on the health of mothers-to-be and babies in rural and remote areas, including in Papua New Guinea and the Northern Territory. “My goal is to lead change to improve maternal health outcomes in disadvantaged communities in Australia and our region."
