Join us for this week's roundup of inspiring Scholar news...
Thank you to Dr Danielle Malek Roosa, 2004 John Monash Scholar for being the guest of honour at the Commonwealth Bank’s Associate Director’s networking event in Melbourne last week. Danielle’s speech was a source of inspiration for the guests in attendance and we encourage you to read her speech on our website. Her experiences are extraordinary and she has fascinating wisdom to share. The evening was a great opportunity to promote the longstanding partnership between the John Monash Foundation and the Commonwealth Bank. We would also like to congratulate Danielle for being selected as a finalist in the Lawyer’s Weekly Corporate Counsel Awards 2022, in the not-for-profit lawyer category. Danielle works as a Senior Legal Counsel for the World Bank and is currently co-teaching an online Masters course in Global Financial Architecture at the University of Melbourne’s Law School.
In the last five years there has been a shift away from “rectifying” cosmetic procedures which reverse the ageing process, in favour for “preventative” procedures which are more common amongst young people. Dr Gemma Sharp, 2007 John Monash Scholar, clinical psychologist, Senior Research Fellow at the Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre and leader of the Body Image Research Group has provided insights to the ABC in a feature article about cosmetic enhancements in Australia. She has advised that due to reduced costs, increased availability and the normalisation of surgery through the media, even teenagers are now seeking cosmetic procedures.
