Alies Sluiter: 2015 John Monash Scholar, Musician, Composer and Film Maker

Alies Sluiter is one of the General Sir John Monash Foundation’s many talented young Australian’s who will head overseas in the coming year to pursue post-graduate studies. In this short video, Alies speaks about her interests, work, and what the future holds.

Alies is a violinist, musical director and composer for feature films, documentaries, television (CNN, ABC, BBC, Foxtel, SBS), music, theatre and dance productions and has guest lectured at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, University of Adelaide and Central Saint Martins University of the Arts London.

In 2011 she founded The Picture Box Orchestra who have performed at festivals such as WOMADelaide. She is currently producing her first documentary and has written and directed two short fiction films.

Alies will study for a Master of Fine Arts in Film at Columbia University in New York.  She has a strong commitment to telling Australian stories, and hopes to establish a production company in Adelaide.

Alies is the recipient of the Australian Cultural John Monash Scholarship which is supported by Mr Tim Fairfax AC and the Australia Council for the Arts.
